Started May 22, 2019 this project (ROJoson’s Preferred Medical Specialists Team) as one of my ways to help regular employees with their medical concerns (getting the right medical specialists and managing medical expenses). This is also an offshoot of the concern of my patients whenever I tell them sooner or later, I will be retiring from medical practice. Their concern is what will happen to them when I retire or become disabled.
Last year, before I reached 70 years old (my first graduation day), I told them of my Project Surgeon Endorsement Program (in an attempt not to help them when I retire or become disabled) wherein
I will identify general surgeons who can approximate my brand or style of a general surgeon. Then, I will endorse them to my patients. I will put up a list and endorse it to my secretary.
I will look for general surgeons who have the following traits:
- A mindset that uses my “Management of a Patient Process”
- Holistic, Professional and Compassionate Surgeons
- Surgeons with the following qualities when they operate in the operating room (of course, with good outcome and adequate anesthesia):
- Speed without too many unnecessary moves
- Surgeons with the following qualities when do procedures when the patients are awake (again, of course, with good outcome and adequate pain control):
- Gentleness (magaan ang kamay)
- Speed (mabilis)
In the past, there have been several friends and classmates with companies who are concerned with the health management of their employees. Specifically, they are concerned with getting the right medical specialists and managing medical expenses of their employees who are just receiving minimum-wage salaries. If their employees’ medical problems are within my specialty (general surgery and surgical oncology), there is no problem in my helping them personally, personally managing the employees in the most cost-effective way possible and using value-based health care approach and treating or referring them to hospitals with the lower costs such as the Philippine General Hospital and Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center. A common problem that I have encountered is when the medical concerns are not within my specialty or capability. My hands are tight in helping them get to medical specialists outside my field who can give cost-effective treatment and value-based health care services and treat them in hospitals with lower medical expenses.
Starting May 22, 2019, I will try out a project which I dub as ROJoson’s Preferred Medical Specialists Team.
The concept is as such:
I will look for medical specialists who are willing to be part of my ROJoson’s Preferred Medical Specialist Team.
I will write them an online invitation that contains the following basic message:
Dear Dr. xxxx:
I will be coordinating the health care program of the employees of some companies using the principles of managed health care. I am looking for preferred medical specialists who will render cost-efficient and value-based health care services to the employees.
We will be using practically the same renumeration scheme of the HMOs but with two differences: immediate cash payment for medical services rendered and consultation fee in the clinic is P500.
Other services such as surgical procedures and inpatient confinement will follow the standard practices of the HMOS.
If you are willing to be part of my team, please signify your intention with your clinic schedule and clinic telephone number and cellphone number. Thank you.
There is no formal contract to be signed.
They can chose to withdraw from the Team or Project anytime (if they are no longer happy with the arrangement) . I can also choose not to refer to them anymore (if they are not rendering cost-effective and value-based services and not complying with the arrangement anymore). Furthermore, I can choose to terminate the Project anytime for whatever reason (such as I am already disabled).
As I said, I will try this out, which started May 22, 2019. Hopefully, I will achieve the goals that I set out for in this Project – 1) help my friends’ company employees in getting the right medical specialists who will render cost-effective and value-based health care services and 2) help the Filipino people and patients in getting cost-effective and value-based health care services.
As of May 22, 2019, a urologist from the Philippine General Hospital has agreed to be part of my Preferred Medical Specialists Team. I have referred a company employee – patient with a kidney stone problem to this urologist.
Will continue to update this site.
