Breast Cancer Survivor Gloria Hortellano – 10 Years in Remission

Ms. Gloria Hortellano was 53 years old in April 27, 2009 when she underwent modified radical mastectomy by me.   The primary tumor was about 2.5 cm. Two nodes were positive for metastasis.  ERA / PRA were positive and HER-2-NUE was negative. She did not want to have chemotherapy after the operation.   She did not have radiotherapy, just hormonal therapy in the form of tamoxifen for 5 years. Cancer surveillance was done using symptom-sign-directed approach.

On April 27, 2019, at age 62 year old, she proudly came to me and said she is now a breast cancer survivor at 10 years and asked a picture taken with me and publicized to serve as an inspiration to others.  She is exactly 10 years in remission (April 27, 2009 to April 27, 2019).  We both thank God for this long remission.

I am happy to learn that she included having picture with me at 10 years in remission as part of her intentional life plan.  Having an intentional living plan and looking forward to be included in my cancer survivor registry, I believe, can contribute to long remission.
