Medicine is more than drugs and operations and procedures. This means not all patients should be treated just by drugs and operations and procedures only. Some can be treated as such and some can be treated without drugs, operations and procedures. Some can be treated by watch and wait approach to allow the body to recover itself. Some can be treated by watch and wait approach after removal of the precipitating cause. Some can be treated by fixing the mind and spirit through counseling.
It is essential to look at the person as a whole, not a specific organ system which is not working well, and by whole this include mind, spirit and body.
Medicine is a complex profession. It is an inexact science. It is essentially a problem-solving and decision-making on the health concerns of patients with no absolutely one way of treatment and no guarantee for cure.
Physician should look at his relationship with patients as a partnership. His role is to advice or give a second opinion and not to push any particular treatment or procedure. He should refer patients on to whatever he and his patient jointly feel is the most appropriate therapy.
