Aphorisms of Sir William Osler

Medicine is a science of uncertainty and an art of probability.

The Physician is one who cures sometimes, alleviates often, but comfort always.

Medicine is learned at the bedside – not in the classroom.

The art of medicine is to be learned only by experience.

To study the phenomena of disease without books is to sail an uncharted sea. while to sudy books without patients is not to go to sea at all.
