ROJoson’s Speech – MDH Cancer Crusaders Club – December 14, 2014

Happy 27th Anniversary to the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club.

Happy 27th Anniversary to you, the members, and to the organizers, led by Dr. Elsie Dancel and Ms. Beth Tumambing.

Congratulations to you, to the organizers, and to Manila Doctors Hospital which has been supporting the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club for the past 27 years.

On this occasion, let me first express my feeling. Later, I will express my hope and wish and dream.

I like to express my happiness.

I am happy to see all of you, members of the Cancer Crusaders, cancer patients, cancer survivors, supporters and caregivers of the cancer patients and cancer survivors.

I am happy to see that you are all enjoying the program prepared by the organizers.

I am happy to see that you are all inspired.

For the cancer patients and cancer survivors, you are all inspired when you saw other cancer patients and cancer survivors.  Right or wrong? (Audience responded: RIGHT!)

You are inspired to be stronger, not to be depressed, and to live on to accomplish your plans in life.  Right or wrong? (Audience responded: RIGHT!)

You are inspired to help other cancer patients. Right or wrong? (Audience responded: RIGHT!)

For the supporters and caregivers of the cancer patients and cancer survivors, you are all inspired to continue to support your cancer patients and cancer survivors.  Right or wrong? (Audience responded: RIGHT!)

You are inspired to help other cancer patients.  Right or wrong? (Audience responded: RIGHT!)

You are inspired to help yourself in case you get a cancer in the future.  Right or wrong? (Audience responded: RIGHT!)

In 1988, when we established the Cancer Crusaders Club, the Annual Christmas Get-together has been intended to be a reunion and an opportunity in sharing experiences; helping each other; learning from each other; giving support to each other; and giving each other strength to continue living life to the fullest in the midst of having cancer.

With your unanimous answers of “right” or “correct” to the questions I posed earlier,  I conclude that after 27 years, the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club is still relevant and helpful.  It still is achieving its objectives. Right or wrong? (Audience responded: RIGHT!)

The other thing that I am happy about is how the organizers led by Dr. Elsie Dancel and Ms. Beth Tumambing have been doing, not only to make the program of activities meaningful and enjoyable, but also to sustain the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club.  If you agree with my observations and feel the same thing, please stand-up to show our appreciation to the Dr. Elsie Dancel and Ms. Beth Tumambing.

At this point, can I call on Beth to acknowledge her assistants and other supporters of the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club.  (Beth acknowledged her assistants and people who contributed to the Get-Together.)

On this occasion too, I like to express my dream, hope and wish for the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club.

MDH Cancer Crusaders Club is the longest cancer support group in the Philippines that is still very active.  Is this a dream or a fact?

After 27 years of being with you in this MDH Cancer Crusaders Club, I hope and wish I will still be with you for another 10 years or so.

I also hope and wish that you will continue to participate at least in the Annual Christmas Get-Together of the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club for at least 10 years more.

At this point, I want to ask how many of you have participated in the Annual Christmas Get-Together of the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club for 10 years now? 5 years?  (4 with 10 years – Raidis, Judy, Lita, Ampi [given prizes]; more 10 with 5 years).

Starting next year, we will give special acknowledgement and prizes to those who have attended the Annual Christmas Get-Together of the MDH Cancer Crusaders Club for at least 10 times.

Another thing, look at this T-shirt that I am wearing.  This is circa 1989, 25 years old already.  I have four of this shirt at home.  Old but I still wear them.  At this point, I like to ask who still have this T-shirt at home?  If you have one and not wearing it, please give it to me.  I hope and wish to wear such a T-shirt up to the last year of my life on earth.

I like to end my speech with Mother Theresa’ Credo on Life.

LIFE

Mother Theresa’s Credo

Life is an opportunity, avail it.

Life is a beauty, admire it.

Life is bliss, taste it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is costly, care for it.

Life is a wealth, keep it.

Life is love, enjoy it.

Life is mystery, know it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, brace it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is life, defend it.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All!
